To understand the stresses placed on the hands and wrists, "pretend" to use your devices. Notice the lobster claw shape your hands make to thumb-type on a cell-phone grip, and the sideways wrist flexion of a non-ergonomic keyboard.
First, try changing your main go-to 'way' you operate the phone. You've got to unlock this major tendency to stop the tendonitis. Limit wrist and palm flexion as much as possible, and this will take pressure off these nerves. A nice alternative, albeit slower at first, is to type with the pointer finger on your main hand, while holding the phone in your off hand. This mimics our natural evolution-- palms and thumbs were made for gripping things, while our fingers were made for dexterity.
Second, this video shows some stretches and graceful exercises to counter Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, tendonitis, nerve pain, thumb or palm pain, weak wrists, or improve grip strength.
Third, you can use ice or heat to reduce pain or swelling. I love ice as a healer, just five minutes soaking in a dish or bucket of ice water can do wonders. Heat wraps or a hot soak can be great too.
What works for you? Please let me know and then everyone can see it!
