Tucson officers save man’s life in ARIZONA
On October 17, 2018, two off-duty Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) Officers were on their way home from SWAT School when they came upon a pickup truck that was stopped on I10 in the westbound fast lane, between Valencia Road and Alvernon Way exits. Officer Azuelo and Officer Lee pulled over to assist the driver of the vehicle, who was unresponsive behind the wheel. S.W.A.T. Officer Layton and Tucson Fire Department Assistant Chief Garcia were in the area and stopped by to help as well. Officer Azuelo and Lee pulled the driver from the truck and determined that he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Officer Layton began performing CPR in the dirt median completing four rounds of CPR until the Rural Metro Fire Department responded. The medics used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to get electrical activity back in the driver's heart, then transported him to a local hospital. It was at the hospital that they determined the driver had suffered a massive heart attack. This entire scene played out during rush hour traffic on the interstate.
